The Thunderbird Cafe: A Hidden Gem at Massanutten, Virginia

As a snow enthusiast, you're in luck if you're planning a trip to Massanutten, Virginia! The resort has been blessed with an abundance of snowfall this season, and it's showing no signs of slowing down. With new snow yesterday and overnight snowmaking, today promises to be an amazing day on the slopes.

One of the highlights of the resort is Rock Drop, a relatively new black diamond trail that offers challenging skiing for experienced skiers. Located under the Ridge Triple chairlift, this trail requires some extra base to hold enough snow to keep from hitting the rocks underneath. Unfortunately, due to its steep and narrow terrain, it can't be groomed, so you'll need to take advantage of portable snowguns to get your fix.

But if you're looking for a break from skiing, The Thunderbird Cafe is just the place to refuel and recharge. This cozy cafe offers a range of delicious dishes, including their famous bourbon chocolate chip pecan pie. My friend JF and her son recently visited with mixed results. While the food was good, the service left much to be desired.

From what I've gathered from other reviews, The Thunderbird Cafe is usually a great spot to grab a bite to eat. Their Texas grilled cheese sandwich is particularly recommended, as well as their cheddar cornbread and honey butter. Unfortunately, on this visit, the service was less than desirable, with long waits for refills and a missed order or two.

Despite these issues, I'm still eager to give The Thunderbird Cafe another try in the future. Their menu offers plenty of options to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters, and their cozy atmosphere is perfect for a chilly winter day.
